Dear Smoketree Families,

On behalf of the staff at Smoketree Elementary School, I am happy to welcome you to the 2021-22 school year! For those of you who are new to our school community, I extend a special welcome and thank you for choosing Smoketree Elementary School.

Our staff is committed to providing the best educational experiences possible for your child. It is our mission to help students feel welcomed and connected. We are committed to providing high-quality education in a safe, nurturing environment designed to inspire and enrich life-long learning.

We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you! We believe strong partnerships make a great difference in your child’s education and ensures your child achieves his/her highest potential.

I would like to take a moment to introduce our new assistant principal, Mr. Roger Burger. Mr. Burger comes to us with 34 years of experience working in LHUSD in various roles from teaching kindergarten to serving as a high school assistant principal/athletic director to elementary school principal. Mr. Burger looks forward to getting to know our students and families and is eager to work with the entire school community to support the academic and social growth of each of our students.

I am honored to continue to serve as the principal of Smoketree Elementary School. It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community where students, staff, parents, and community members care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that promote the development of a better tomorrow for us all. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 928-505-6025 or email me at nmersing@lhusd.org.

We are intently preparing for the return of our students on the first day of school, Monday, August 2. Please let us know any way that we can serve your family’s educational needs in the coming school year. We thank you for your support and collaboration. WELCOME BACK! Let’s make it another great year in cougar country!

Warmly,

Nina Mersing
